The Commuters Canvas is a pan-african platform dedicated to the histories and knowledge surrounding transit decor seen in Nigeria. West Africa boasts shared histories pertaining to the introduction of cars, public transit, English language and signage as we know it today. Each culture has a definite visual identity, Danfo’s being Lagos’ and invariably Nigeria’s. Using Danfos as a vehicle for exploration, we will be documenting the various facets of car decor; typography, color, content, religion and more. This project will serve as a basis upon which inspiration can be sourced, direct lines of references can be drawn and much more.
